The Firsts Tour… In SPAAAAAACE!

More Info...

The Space Race in the 1950s and 60s was all about being first. During this guided experience, you will explore many of the Museum’s unique examples of first achievements in spaceflight. We will show you remains of the world’s first liquid-fueled rocket--built by Robert Goddard in 1926, plus a 1950s Russian-made engineering model of Sputnik (as close as you can come to the first satellite). Peek inside the very first Apollo command module. We’ll tell you the story behind NASA’s first official mission patch, and show you fragments of the first airplane that Neil Armstrong brought to the Moon. Get up-close with the Space Shuttle Trainer that was often a new astronaut’s first experience with a full-scale Shuttle.

This experience is 2-3 hours and requires taking some stairs and ladders.

Build a Plane with a Master Modeler

More Info...

If you, or a family member, have ever wanted to build a scale model airplane but don’t know where to start, this online workshop is for you. The Museum of Flight has teamed up with the master builders from the NorthWest Scale Modelers Club to offer online model-making workshops to guide you from start to finish. The NorthWest Scale Modelers have built many of the models on display at the Museum, so you know these craftspeople are world-class. Now one of them will help you assemble a model of the all-time classic fighter jet—the F-86 Sabre! To help speed the activity, the 1/72-scale model parts are pre-painted in US Air Force colors (but we won’t snitch if you tell your friends it was your steady hand with a brush that accomplished it all).

You can take the workshop at your own pace, so if you get stumped, just ask the Master Modeler via the chat window! And while you are learning the tips-of-the-trade, we’ll also tell you some little-known facts about the F-86 and the Canadian version we have in our collection!

The workshop is free with the purchase of an F-86 model kit from the Museum Store. We'll send you a registration access code to the workshop when you order the kit. Workshops like this one fill up fast, so it’s best to register soon

Date: Saturday, January 30th at 2:00 pm

Event sales will close at the end of the day on January 28th (last day for shipping is January 21st).

Participant Cost $29.95

Museum of Flight Member Cost (15% off) $25.45

Free curbside pickup is available to retrieve your model kits. Instructions for curbside pickup will be sent in your confirmation email after you register for the event.
